Catarina King Society1 collage

Catarina King is the co-founder of Society1, a vibrant coworking space in the heart of Preston city centre offering a fully flexible workspace environment. The two founders joined Boost’s Growth Support programme at the start of their growth journey.

As a business owner that works alongside and supports many other budding entrepreneurs, Catarina shares her thoughts with Boost and offers advice for new entrepreneurs.

What support did you receive from Boost and how has it helped you and your business?

We joined the Boost programme when we first started Society1. We attended a range of events which were really insightful. We met lots of new people from the area too. Many of whom we are still in touch with and work with.

What piece of advice stood out the most during your Boost support?

We got lots of great advice from the Boost team, but one thing that stood out was that they really encouraged us to get out and meet other businesses and entrepreneurs.

Who has been your biggest business inspiration and why?

My biggest business inspiration are my parents. They are the hardest working people I know and are passionate about creating wonderful things. They had restaurants when I grew up, one of which was in the building where Society1 is now. Their commitment to quality is something I have always admired.

What motivates you in business and why?

I love people and creating things. Society1 is about both of these. We have a wonderful community of people who we love to support. We have created a beautiful space to work in and an environment that is friendly and welcoming for all. Seeing people enjoy it and thrive in their businesses here makes me so happy and motivates me to do more.

How do you like to start your working day?

Mine has to start with a good coffee, a catch up on what is happening in the world and a review of the day’s plan of action!

Why is Lancashire a great location for a business?

I love Lancashire, not only is it a beautiful place to live but it has so many layers to it and the people are really friendly. Lancashire’s geography of different areas provides so much opportunity to work with people in other areas of the region too.

What would you say to someone who is considering using Boost?

Definitely go for it. No matter where you are in your business journey you can benefit from the programme.

What is your advice for anyone looking to grow a business?

Don’t be afraid to get yourself out there and meet new people. There are so many opportunities to learn new things, never be afraid to learn something new.
