Mackintosh, a company famous for its iconic raincoats, and part of a large international textile group, is expanding and creating 60 jobs in Pendle with support from a growth grant.

The Scottish firm produces its own branded coats, but also supplies to companies at the top of the fashion market, including Prada, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. It has invested further in Lancashire, building an extension to its factory on Waterford Street in Nelson. It has also purchased state of the art textile equipment, including sewing and cutting machinery, with the aim of doubling its manufacturing and working capacity. This will create up to 60 permanent new jobs.

The extension and purchase of machinery was partially funded with a £150,000 grant from Regenerate Pennine Lancashire. The grant is supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Stephen Lees, General Manager at the plant, said:

“Our raincoats are highly detailed and require an enormous amount of skill to produce, so it was important that we invested further in Nelson to retain our highly skilled workforce and take on more staff from the area. The approval of the grant from Regenerate was a major factor in the decision to expand the Lancashire site”.
