This networking event coincides with the NSG Group’s Safety Day, an annual, worldwide event in which every company within the Group takes part. Whilst safety is always top of the agenda, the day is intended to focus minds and give employees the opportunity to stop and to take stock of safety issues. Throughout the day a number of safety and general health related presentations and activities take part in which all are encouraged to participate.

NGF Europe Limited is a subsidiary company of the NSG Group, one of the World’s leading manufacturers of glass products. It is the market leader and at the forefront of the manufacture and marketing of glass cord products, used, primarily, in the automotive industry for the reinforcement of synchronous drive belts.

The site, in the Lea Green area of St Helens, operates a 24 hour, seven days a week process.

NGF Europe has twice been the recipient of a Queen’s Award.  Firstly in 2001 when it received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade, and again in 2014 when it received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.  This was given in recognition of the design and manufacture of small filament diameter glass cords used in ‘Belt in Oil’ (BiO) applications which changed the way automotive engineers design vehicles.

In 2013, NGF Europe completed a £4 million investment, supported by a £500,000 Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative grant (part of the UK Government Regional Growth Fund), adding a high strength glass fibre-forming facility at its site, an important primary process in glass cord manufacture, involving the production of glass fibre filament.  As a result, the factory in St. Helens became the only fully-integrated high tensile strength glass cord manufacturing factory in Europe and the only such facility outside Japan.

At the factory in St Helens you will hear about NGF Europe’s H&S journey from dependency to the holy grail of interdependency. Learn how NGF Europe has moved forward. Find out for yourself the challenges, disappointments and rewards from a company which is striving to continually improve all aspects of H & S. You will see first-hand the controls the company has introduced to reduce risk, the tools it has launched to improve buy-in and the recent strategies aimed at behavioural and leadership in safety, addressing health and safety requirements, as NGF Europe shares its ‘twists and turns safety journey’ with you.

There will also be the opportunity to see behind the scenes at the impressive production facility.
