Introducing Let’s Talk:

Society1 in collaboration with Digital Lancashire and Creative Lancashire are hosting their next creative collaboration evening ‘Lets Talk …’ on Thursday 6th February.

This evening is a regular post-work gathering to bring Preston and Lancashire creative / digital / aspiring businesses and freelancers together for creative conversations around topics that are current, impactful and interesting to our Lancashire community.

Let’s Talk – Creativity, Culture & Place

with Michael Trainor – Art B&B

Society 1, Preston

For our next Let’s talk extended roundtable we examine the role of the creative industries in making towns or cities compelling, and the many ways the sector helps to shape the identity of places.

From film, place-making, spatial development, creative tourism, clusters and hubs, the creative industries and those who operate in the related professions impact and inform the development of global Uber cities as much as it is key to independent culture of smaller towns.

This discussion will explore to what extent creative industries can be a driver for regeneration and look at some of the innovative models that are being developed locally and globally.

Guest Speaker: Michael Trainor

Michael Trainor is the Creative Director of the new Art Bed & Breakfast (Art B&B) hotel. As recently featured on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, Art B&B is a social enterprise which is refurbishing a Blackpool seafront hotel through commissioning artists to develop everything from the room designs to the hotel operations. When it opens later this year it will have 17 unique bedrooms rooms plus spaces for performances, exhibition and events. The model is to re-invest profits into local creative initiatives and further art commissioning. Michael’s previous roles include director of LeftCoast, the trailblazing Arts Council supported Creative People & Places programme, Chair of Northern Quarter association and various arts commissions including Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool City of Culture plus curatorial roles across the UK and beyond.
