The Department for International Trade (DIT), in partnership with DIT Ireland invites companies from the Northern Powerhouse to attend our preliminary webinar focusing on the Offshore Wind industry in Ireland. This webinar is part of a series of four focused on Ireland’s key sectors.
Ireland’s offshore industry is at present still in the early stages of both project and supply chain development, offering UK companies with
experience and expertise great opportunities to get involved in what is an ambitious sector aiming to develop between 3.5 GW between now
The sector is underpinned by the Government mandated 70by30 goal, mandating that 70% of electricity used must come from renewable
energy sources by 2030. A Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auction for offshore is planned for early 2022 in order to give
developers certainty on their investment decisions while two policy frameworks are currently making its way through Government bodies
in order to provide a streamlined and strategic planning and consenting regime for projects. Further investment in the national grid and the
ports system are also needed to support the sector.
The project pipeline currently marks out projects on the East and South East coast of the country, but as floating technology matures the
West coast offers further development potential. At the moment, UK companies with expertise in the early project development phase such
as consenting, planning, environmental surveys and overall project management should take note of this emerging sector and business
