We highlight some of the mentors working with Lancashire businesses behind the scenes. So take a break and read about Carl Bradshaw the ‘GP’ of mentoring with a ‘challenger’ style.
Why did you choose to become a mentor?
Mentoring found me, I was at a networking event in 2008 talking with an accountant, about looking to volunteer in Lancashire having not long ago sold the family business and was introduced to Community and Business Partners as a potential mentor.
After a discussion/interview with Jane, I took on my first client and have never looked back as I love what I do.
How do you make a real difference to Lancashire businesses?
I am a ‘GP’ of business mentoring with a ‘challenger’ style often playing devil’s advocate or sounding board, so I can be quite direct and ask those questions that others do not.
What is your area of expertise and why is it an important area to for business leaders to address?
Having done most roles in business from janitor to managing director, I have a financial background and a broad knowledge, of most things business. So, I would say I was more of a ‘general practitioner’ rather than specialist.
What has been your most inspirational moment as a mentor?
Helping a client to release an extra 20 per cent of sales that they didn’t realise was there, by changing just one thing about their business.
What are the key challenges for Lancashire businesses at the moment?
Being brave enough to step back from the business to look at the whole picture when your mind and body are telling you to keep your head down and plough on regardless.
As a mentor, what are your three business growth tips?
1. Make time for YOU, rediscover your WHY.
2. Review sales methods regularly.
3. Make the most of customer feedback.
