Business resilience the Superfast way

In the latest in our blog series on resilience Rob Powell from Superfast Lancashire considers the data implications of being a resilient business. Businesses and information are more mobile and inter-connected than ever before, as technology is changing the way organisations operate.

As a consequence information is at the heart of every business and SME’s in particular need to understand how to keep it secure in this ever changing world. Business owners are increasingly becoming aware that the physical and operational threats to their businesses arise from three main sources:

  • Acts of nature - such as fire and floods
  • Accidents - such as plane crashes and system failures
  • Deliberate acts – such as  theft and industrial action

Each business will have its own particular set of potential threats to continuous operation, but all of these issues have the potential to cause serious disruption, no matter the size of the organisation.

As a consequence, businesses should be looking for reassurance that they will be able to continue operations even in a worst case scenario. In a business environment where time really is money, its essential businesses know that they will be able to continue serving their client-base quickly, with no loss of data and minimum disruption. This peace of mind can be achieved by implementing efficient and cost effective counter measures, to address IT challenges such as:

  • Business Continuity
  • Data Security
  • Working from Multiple locations
  • Flexible working

Initiatives, such as the Superfast Lancashire programme, are enabling businesses to use fibre broadband to improve their effectiveness in reducing risk & managing change. By introducing new ways of working such as home working, can potentially add resilience to the business and form part of a business continuity plan.
