An innovative pilot scheme that provides family businesses with external perspectives and high-quality support is recruiting for its second cohort this month.

Last summer, eight North West businesses were offered an unrivalled opportunity to gain external support and expertise from successful business leaders in the region. This diverse group of businesses have been getting together quarterly with a supportive group of ‘board members’, which includes corporate directors and managers as well as successful SME leaders.

Feedback from both the businesses and their ‘boards’ has been superb, with participants particularly valuing the objective input, wide range of different perspectives and supportive environment.

The Advisory Board Programme is targeted at family businesses who don’t yet have a formal board structure in place but would welcome the chance to call on non-executive director style input on issues that are important to them.  This could be things such as transitioning leadership, new products and markets, planning for growth, dealing with risk or raising funds.

Advisory Boards will also challenge business leaders to interrogate their strategies, help develop their confidence in decision-making and significantly enhance their professional networks.

There is no financial cost to participation, although business leaders will need to commit to attending a quarterly meeting, producing reporting information and providing feedback.  The closing date for expressions of interest for cohort two is February 10.
