Digital First is a fully-funded ERDF project delivered by the University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) Innovation Lab team. Based in the Media Factory on UCLan’s Preston Campus, the team work with small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) that trade business-to-business (B2B) in Lancashire, to help them improve their understanding of digital technologies and how they can use these to:
- reach more customers and grow your business
- make business processes more efficient
- create jobs within the region.
We are a down-to-earth and approachable multidisciplinary team of ‘tecchies’ and marketing communications specialists who won’t bamboozle you with ‘techy talk’ and jargon.
How we help B2B businesses in Lancashire
We offer both consultancy and practical support. Some examples of how we have helped eligible businesses to date include:
- Improved web presence
- Social media advice and support
- SEO assessments and reports
- Camera drone photography
- Promotional videos
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and online training resources
- App development
The time we spend on each project varies depending on the nature of the work but you can expect to receive a minimum of 12 hours assistance from us. The majority of our clients benefit from a much greater level of support than this.
For larger and more complex projects we are able to draw upon the knowledge and expertise of the wider UCLan community.
“We are extremely pleased with the help we’ve received from the Digital First team. They’ve supported Sharrocks Fresh Produce through a steady period of growth with its online and system schemes. Having a presence on Facebook has helped us generate new leads which has been great.”
– Wilf Whittle, Business Development Manager, Sharrocks Fresh Produce
“The team at Digital First has improved our awareness of digital media/technology and social media.”
– Nick Riley, Landscape Architect, Playscape Engineering
“We’re delighted with the efforts of Digital First, without whose support our improved web presence wouldn’t have happened.”
– Phil Parramore, Founder, GuideDotYou
Who is it for?

* SME – Small to Medium Enterprises must employ fewer than 250 full-time people with a turnover of less than £40m.
How does it work?
If you meet our eligibility criteria we will invite you to an informal meeting to find out more about your business and what you would like to get out of the project. If accepted, we will ask you to complete a registration form and take a brief from you.
