A growth conversation with...Michael Finnigan

Our latest growth conversation is with Michael Finnigan. Michael Finnigan is CEO of i2i (Impossible to Inevitable), a Preston-based company that enables organisations and individuals across the globe to hit their objectives by understanding the psychological strategies that lead to success.

Michael has been working in this field since 1992 and i2i’s clients include some of the world's most famous businesses, including Royal Mail, Rolls Royce, Emirates and Travel Counsellors.

Michael also works extensively within elite sport and his work is credited with helping Wigan Athletic win the FA Cup in 2013 and golfer Darren Clarke to win the Open Championship at Royal St George’s in 2011.

What is the biggest challenge you faced when growing your business and how did you overcome this?

The worst thing was having no track record and no reputation, so I just gave my stuff away for free to create fans and PR, then started asking people to pay what they thought it was worth.  It worked!

What qualities must a growing business owner possess to be successful?

You must stick to your guns in terms of where you see your business going and just make sure you follow through on tasks. Sticking to your plan takes guts and persistence; great qualities in a business owner for me.

What top tip would you give to a business owner embarking on a growth plan? Remember you’re the boss, so you make the calls.  By all means ask advice, but make your own decisions, just like Captain James T Kirk of the Enterprise!

Which entrepreneur do you admire and why?

I like Michelle Mone of Ultimo.  She takes NO prisoners, she is fearless, she is great with people and she really loves her business.

Why is Lancashire a great place to grow a business?

It has everything for a great life so it’s a great place to live and work.  Think about it; great towns and cities, restaurants, seaside, golf, theatres, countryside walks, theme parks; it just has it all.  I wouldn’t live anywhere else.
