Funding Q&A: James Cole

James Cole Funding Hub QA

James Cole is founder of Panache Cruises, an online luxury cruise retailer based in Chorley. The company has received two separate loans from Rosebud Finance (£500,000 in total) since launching in 2020, supporting the company's continued growth. He shares insights on how the funding has supported the business and tips for other businesses looking at external finance.

How important has funding been to the development of your business?

The funding has been fundamental to us growing our business quickly and profitably, ensuring we can increase employment in the Lancashire area.

What has been the biggest impact of funding for you and your business?

The ability to invest in new premises, increase our marketing spend and employ more people sooner than we would have otherwise.

When looking for funding, where should a business start?

This depends on what the funding is required for. However, I would suggest speaking to and exploring as many different options as possible. A simple Google search will open up several options.

What are your top tips to get a business investment ready?

  • Have a clear multi-year business plan
  • Show yourself in the best possible way (funders value experience and achievements)
  • Get yourself into a confident mindset

What are funders looking for in a leader and management team?

They look for experience, achievements and confidence that a business leader can implement the plan they are presenting.

What has been the biggest lesson learnt from your funding journey/s?

Explore all avenues and if you don’t ask you don’t get. Be positive, be confident and have a robust plan. For more information about Rosebud Finance, visit https://www.rosebudfinance.co.uk/
