What do you see is your role as a Boost relationship manager?

I see my role as BRM as engaging with business owners to understand their challenges and aspirations and help them navigate the minefield of business support available which saves them time and also ensure they are on the right track.

What kinds of businesses have you helped recently and what areas of support were they seeking?

I have helped a huge diversity of businesses from restaurants and bakeries to manufacturers and those in the wellbeing arena to name a few. Many of the businesses were seeking support on accessing funding, marketing, recruiting and retaining staff and advice on digital marketing and e-commerce.

How do you feel you have helped them?

Apart from signposting and making introductions, for the most it is helping to find appropriate support for their needs, much of which is fully funded. The feedback I have received from clients is that they also felt they had a sounding board and someone who listened to them. They found this valuable especially during the height of the pandemic. I feel it is a privilege to work with business owners and helping them is hugely rewarding. We are very happy to help and only a phone call away.

What are the key challenges for Lancashire businesses at the moment?

This really depends on the sector and type of business. The hospitality sector has been particularly affected with restrictions forcing them to close for many months and social distancing regulations making some businesses unviable. But it isn’t all bad news, many businesses have started to trade online gaining new customers, some have pivoted and have entered new markets. There are high number of people starting their own business and interestingly two thirds of businesses are starting their businesses using online social media platforms.

Why it is so important to help Lancashire business leaders?

We want to support as many Lancashire businesses as possible to grow. Businesses are the lifeblood of our economy. More people in work not only helps the country get back on its feet but also helps workers maintain their personal finances, supporting themselves, their families and builds their self esteem which is important for mental health.
