Chiptech wins Scaleup Award at Lancashire’s Red Rose Awards 2023

Innovative Lancaster manufacturer Chiptech has been crowned winner of this year’s Scaleup Award at Lancashire’s Red Rose Awards 2023.

The annual awards ceremony, which is hosted by Lancashire Business View, took place at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on Thursday night (March 9) and was attended by more than 1000 people.

The Scaleup Award recognises the best of the county’s high-growth businesses, which must be able to demonstrate at least 20 per cent annual growth.

It was sponsored by business performance consultancy Cube Thinking, which delivers Two Zero’s Scaleup Leaders Network, a tailored scaleup programme which provides support and advice to around 50 Lancashire scaleup business.

Chiptech, based at Lancaster University, manufactures and supplies technology products and software to local authorities, housing providers and insurers. The company’s products include monitoring devices, GPS equipment and associated software which are provided to vulnerable people.

During its first three years of trading, the company has supplied 50,000 lifelines, quadrupling turnover last year, and is on course to double turnover again this year.

Amin Vepari, programme manager, Two Zero, said: “Lancashire’s scaleup community is a key part of the county’s economic success and since Two Zero launched in 2020, this community has continued to grow and thrive. The quality of all the finalists in this year’s Scaleup Award category is a testament to that.

“It’s also heartening to see Lancashire companies which Two Zero has supported nominated for other awards during the evening. I am looking forward to seeing Two Zero support more Red Rose Awards finalists and winners in the coming years.”

Coolkit, which is currently taking part in Two Zero’s Scaleup Leaders Network, won this year’s Medium Business of the Year Award and was a finalist in the Made in Lancashire Award and Environmental, Social and Governance Award.

Bigtank Productions, also taking part in Scaleup Leaders Network, was a finalist in this year’s Design Award, while the Wellbeing Farm was a finalist in the Environmental, Social and Governance Award, Health and Wellbeing Award, Tourism Leisure and Hospitality Award and also the Transformation Award.

In addition to Chiptech, the companies shortlisted for this year’s Scaleup Award were B2BTradeCard (Chorley), Hippo Motor Group (Blackburn), LCM Environmental Services (Burnley), Northern Industrial (Blackburn) and Star Tissue UK (Blackburn).
