Boost Q&A: Claire Louise Chapman, The Shared Value Business

The Shared Value Business (TSVB) is a consultancy which supports businesses to create societal change in the way they deliver contracts. Founded by Claire Louise Chapman, its purpose is to help clients create the most positive change for the communities in which they work.

Claire Louise received support from Boost’s Flying Start programme to help grow her business. She shares her business story and tips for those looking to establish their own company.

What support did you receive from Boost and how has it helped you and your business?

I’ve had business mentor advice and attended finance and sales training. The mentoring was great as I had the opportunity to speak to an experienced business leader about the particular challenges I was facing. Hayley Caine’s Sales training was brilliant – I’d recommend it to everyone!

What piece of advice stood out the most during your Boost support?

I think rather than advice, most memorable is how motivated I feel after speaking to other professionals. It’s reassuring to know that my challenges aren’t unique, and that other people have worked through them.

Who has been your biggest business inspiration and why?

There are a great many businesses and consultancies that inspire me. Lancaster-based Fuuse: Charge Point Management System Software Platform Electric Vehicles is seeing huge growth and their business values are exceptional.

What motivates you in business and why?

I set up TSVB to support organisations to embed social sustainability in their working practices. My motivation comes from seeing a client creating opportunities for employees that are life changing.

How do you like to start your working day?

Ha – getting my child to school on time is always a win!

Why is Lancashire a great location for a business?

There’s great support, from organisations like Boost, but even more so from a connected business community that is always up for sharing knowledge. I know I have peers who will cheerlead for me, which is fantastic.

What would you say to someone who is considering using Boost?

Check it out, make time to meet a business advisor and see how it goes from there. There’s a great deal of information out there, and you don’t need to do this on your own.

What is your advice for anyone looking to grow a business?

Find yourself some cheerleaders. Sounds a bit daft, but find yourself other people in the same position as you who understand your challenges and will be there for you – Boost can help you connect with these people.
