As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, on 20th November, Lancashire entrepreneurs Luke Massie and Dawood Fard attended an entrepreneur's panel session at the House of Lords.
The panel session was attended by Lord Young, the Prime Minister's advisor for enterprise and explored the value of international collaboration for young UK entrepreneurs.
Representing youth entrepreneurship in Lancashire as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the pair met a network of entrepreneurs and organisations that represent over 500,000 entrepreneurs across G20 countries at the annual Youth Enterprise Alliance G20 summit.
Dawood Fard, whose company, Centurus has recently won the Lloyds and RBS national enterprise awards for best digital company, said "Lancashire has a large number of successful youth entrepreneurs with thriving national and international companies. It is only just that their value towards UK growth is recognised at both UK Parliament and throughout the G20 countries.
"It is extremely challenging to start a company with limited resources, the state and organisations can be doing a lot more to help start-ups succeed."
Luke Massie, whose company, Vibe Tickets has recently raised SEED capital investment from entrepreneur Martin Higginson founder of Monstermob PLC, added: “The G20 alliance summit was extremely educational. It was good to get a better understanding of international business affairs, and not just focus on local problems.
"Understanding the current European trading rules and how America is leading the way in terms of international trading is vitally important for entrepreneurs like me who are trading online.
"The event left me thinking 'what more can we do in Lancashire to maximize our potential, to be ahead of our time?'. I came to see that the communication between private sector and public sector needs to increase. The private sector needs to be advising public sector educational bodies on what skills the economy needs now and in the future. Many of the skills that are currently imparted in universities are not helping the private sector develop."
The Lancashire pair have since been invited to represent Lancashire at the G20 Young Enterprise Alliance summit in Turkey.
